Scholarship Recipient and Former Student
I am who I am because I dance. I can’t imagine my life without Flamenco and its cathartic properties. I am a performing artist, a creator, an award winning producer and choreographer because of what I learned at age 12 as a Scholarship student of the Aditi Foundation’s original entity – AIRE.
The tools I garnered as a young student of ethnic dance have served me in my daily life for over 20 years. My creative thinking and conflict resolution skills reflect the lessons learned in our multi generational classes. My heartfelt interest for other people and my will to give back to my community in performance and instruction of dance stems from the responsibilities we had as young scholarship students. We would choreograph under Alicia Morena’s tutelage programs that we performed in hospices, public areas, concert halls and in the streets for all to receive. We trained and prepared, costumed ourselves and created our own stage names.
I am who I am because I was told it was a good thing for me to pursue the arts as a lifestyle choice and career. I was encouraged to create a unique vision for myself and my love for authentic connection through performance should be shared as a gift with the world. I am indebted to this foundation for believing in me and for adding kindle to the spark that set motion to my entire life since then. A full blown fire courses through me now and this passion is never ending. I continue to strive as an artist for the highest expression of this art form that is Flamenco and I continue to grow as a woman and human being as I journey. I am who I am because I was told I had a gift. This gift is dance. This gift is to serve the dance and act for humanity by preserving its origins.
